Bird Mitigation

An estimated 57 million birds are killed each year in the United States from collisions with powerlines. Bird flight diverters are devices designed to deter birds from striking powerlines while in flight. While PLS BFDs are effective at increasing visibility and preventing collisions, the installation is dangerous. Attaching the plastic diverters to powerlines typically involves linemen hanging out of a helicopter and attaching the devices one at a time. The engineers at FulcrumAir recognized the safety concerns of this approach and developed an ideal alternative. The LineFly is the first in FulcrumAir’s suite of aerial robotics. A fully autonomous robot, the LineFly installs bird flight diverters quickly, safely, and efficiently. There’s never been a better solution.

Efficient Installation

The LineFly is the world’s safest and most efficient method for installing bird flight diverters, automatically and precisely placing 24 diverters in minutes.

Energized Lines

The LineFly is capable of operating in an energized environment provided limits of approach are maintained.

Powerline Protection

In addition to promoting the safety of migratory birds, bird flight diverters also protect powerlines from the damage caused by bird collisions.

No Helicopter Needed

With no helicopter needed, the LineFly contributes to safety and environmental efforts by reducing carbon output and limiting close-contact for workers.

Keeping the Skies Safe For 20+ Years

Power Line Sentry of Wellington, Colorado, leads the industry with quality wildlife mitigation products. The LineFly, only from FulcrumAir, was designed with Power Line Sentry’s bird flight diverters in mind to ensure safe and efficient installation. The bird flight diverters are expertly manufactured with yellow prism tape and 24-hour glow tape for maximum visibility in all conditions. Tested for use on shield wire, OPGW, guy wire, and energized conductor (up to 240 kV), they can withstand 100 mph winds with a lifespan of up to 20 years. In addition to bird flight diverters, Power Line Sentry manufactures a complete line of other industry-leading wildlife mitigation product solutions for electrical utilities.

01

UAS

Our drones are robust and strong. They can carry our robots long distances to place them on the wire. Together, our heavy lift drone and LineFly robot completely replace the helicopter and lineman in the installation process. The E7500 can also deliver tools and equipment while the E2500 HP can lift the LineFly Mini as well as cameras for performing powerline inspections.

Bucket Trucks

In locations where we are prohibited to fly due to regulatory limitations, a bucket truck can the lift the LineFly onto the wire. This process allows us to complete installs in flight-restricted locations, still eliminating the need for helicopters and reducing safety-risks to linemen.
